Affiliate Program Report Card: The SunSpotWeb.com Credit Card Affiliate Program

Last year, I registered a bunch of .CC, credit card related domain names as an experiment: I wanted to see if I could turn a collection of .CC domain names with highly focused keywords/keyphrase second level domains (SLD) into money making websites. My thinking was: since the search engines don't arbitrarily penalize county code top level domain names, why not register credit card related .CC names--since most of the ultra-premium keywords/keyphrases were still available--and market the .CC as .CreditCard. Dot-CC names cost me about $17 per name at www.GoDaddy.com; that's almost double what I pay for .COM names at GoDaddy, but for the perfect keywords and keyphrases, it was certainly worth it.

Here's a partial list of those names:

PrepaidCreditCards.cc
BalanceTransfer.cc
BusinessCreditCards.cc
SecuredCreditCards.cc
StudentCreditCards.cc

My plan was both ambitious and challenging, because, as you can imagine, there are unnumbered websites on the 'Net trying their best to capture all those folks who are looking to apply for a shiny new credit card. A credit card website can be highly lucrative, as revenue can be generated with both pay-per-click programs, like Yahoo's Publisher Network program, and credit card affiliate programs like SunSpotWeb.com.

The folks who run SunSpotWeb have given me permission to disclose my earnings, so here's a list of each check that I've received from SunSpotWeb.com with the corresponding date:

  • 09/06/2005 - $125.50
  • 10/03/2005 - $138.50
  • 11/01/2005 - $154.00
  • 12/05/2005 - $167.00
  • 12/31/2005 - $167.00
  • 02/04/2006 - $308.00
  • 03/05/2006 - $1136.00

As you can see, the progression in earnings had been pretty slow, until I recently had a sudden (and very welcome) jump from $300 to over $1,100. My sites have experienced a slight decline in traffic lately, so I think my next check from SunSpotWeb will be less than $1,000, but I'm OK with that.

So, can I recommend SunSpotWeb.com? Yes, I can. I get an email responses to my queries in less than 24 hours, the payouts are consistent and tracking is excellent. What more can you ask for in an affiliate program?

Here's a list of the companies who have a relationship with SunSpotWeb:
